Centrifugal Wheel Blast
Sometimes referred to as airless abrasive blasting.
Wheel Blasting is an operation that uses a wheel with centrifugal force to propel the abrasives against the parts. The wheel spins at 3,600 RPM. At this high velocity it becomes a very efficient blasting operation with quick time cycles. This type of airless blasting utilizes metallic abrasives such as steel shot, steel grit, stainless steel shot and grit and cut-wire which come in a variety of hardness levels.
The advantage of wheel blasting is its speed of cleaning and the ability to efficiently blast large components. It is also cost-effective in that it does not require compressed air to operate. Which becomes a factor when blasting a large component which would require multiple air blast guns.

Abrasive blasting requires abrasives or what is commonly referred to as ‘media.’
Here are several factors to consider when choosing the media
- Is the application removing, compressing or profiling your sub straight
- What is the material of the part or surface being blasted
- Production output
Heat treat scale removal requires different abrasive and equipment than pool tile cleaning or graffiti removal, for instance.
